As Absolique Trichologist Brisbane I have studied nutrition many times over my career and have continued to stay up to date with the latest research. Many of the fad eating plans fail to fit all nutritional categories so here is an outline of a well-balanced way of eating for omnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike. Avoid gluten, dairy and sugar, it is not good for anyone and blocks absorption in every human being. Understand food combining, animal proteins don’t work with carbohydrates, these are all the starchy food like pasta, bread, potatoes and high GI foods. No fruit with any other food or any other fruit. Plant proteins ae incomplete and need to be combined with another plant protein to make it complete such as tofu with sesame seeds, pulses with nuts, vegetables with nuts and seeds.

Good fat is also important to provide Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s). Humans cannot make their own, we need to consume them and then assimilate them. Incorporate good fats into meal planning, such as cooking with coconut oil or grass feed organic butter, these are heat stable. Cold pressed olive oil changes when heated and will provide no benefit if not taken raw. Organic eggs, this is more than just free range, it about what did the chicken eat. Wild caught fish, farmed fish are fed grains and antibiotics, you don’t want to eat this, and they have no good fats because they can’t make EFA’s either, they make them from what they eat too. Other sources of EFA’s are avocados, nuts, seeds and the associated butters, organic coconut products and other organic oils when eaten raw.

How much protein? Depends on your eating style, body weight and exercise level. As a rule for omnivores, at lese one serving 90g of protein and day but be careful to use a variety of meat, chicken, fish, eggs and have some vegetarian or vegan days to let your body have a break, it is hard work digesting animal proteins. Vegetarians will need at least 2 meals a day with protein either from eggs, fish or combined plant sources. Vegans need to try harder and get complete protein is each meal.

Make sure you are not eating the same thing everyday and use a combination of raw and cooked food, even if is simply a sprinkle of fresh herbs on your meals. Absorption is also important, you can use apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice 20 minutes before meals as a pre-digestive, or as a marinade on many foods. For heavier proteins and depending on how your tummy responds to things like pulses, you may want to have some digestive enzymes handy for when needed and take as directed after meals. Modere digestive enzymes work well check them out here https://www.modere.com.au/ProductDetail/digestive-enzymes

Organic and hormone free is important for animal proteins and organic vegetable if you are juicing or making smoothies or for any fruits and vegetable consumed in high amounts. Soy products should also be only organic as they are from GMO crops otherwise and you don’t want to consume these as they are being proven to impact our hormones and methylation pathways.

From a pH perspective, combine acid foods with alkaline food, not acid with acid, alkaline and alkaline works. Get good at getting hungry, hunger means firstly you are thirsty, drink some water, if still hungry half and hour later, your body is telling you the previous meal has been digested. Don’t eat for the sake of scheduled breakfast, lunch and dinner, listen to your body, you will be amazed how different you feel. Hope this helps a bit more with some meal planning, have fun with it, try things you may not have tried before, such as the tasty tofu recipe on the following page which I made for a vegetarian guest at a dinner party and was surprised how yum it was and have kept trying different ways to make tofu tasty.
